Description

Just before the Berbick fight, in the hope that Ali would defeat his opponent and write still another marvelous chapter in boxing history, I went to visit the Champ while he was resting in his dressing room. He was lying on his back on the dressing table in a white terry cloth robe. He looked up at me and I said, “Champ, I wrote a poem for this fight and I dedicated it to you.” Ali said, “Go ahead and read it to me.” I read the poem aloud and I could tell by the smile on his face that he appreciated it. It was meant to cheer him up and to inspire him, as I knew he drew energy from supportive fans like me. I knew he would need all the energy he could muster for this battle that might be his last fight. The Poem went like this…
